About FourthTrimester Connect

FourthTrimester Connect was founded by six MBA students at International Business University in Toronto, Canada. We came together around something simple — a genuine passion for helping people — and the business plan grew out of that.

Our story

While working through our business planning coursework at school, we kept coming back to the same problem. Before a baby arrives, families are surrounded by advice. In the twelve weeks after birth — the fourth trimester — that support tends to disappear, and the real work begins: recovery, feeding, no sleep, big emotions, and a job that expects you back.

Postpartum illness is one of the most common health problems in the world, and one of the least treated. Many mothers live with postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis that is never diagnosed. Others are diagnosed and still can't find help that is actually adequate. Some break down in the middle of that transition with no one to turn to.

Our approach

Our answer was one platform instead of five separate phone calls. A mother — or a family member helping her — can describe what she needs, choose a package, and make a booking. Depending on her situation, that might be a psychologist, a registered night nurse, a postpartum doula, or an employment lawyer who can explain what she is entitled to.

That last one matters more than people expect. Some women lose their jobs simply because an employer doesn't understand what they are going through. Knowing her rights, and having a professional who can explain them, protects a mother while she is at her most vulnerable.

Our role

FourthTrimester Connect is a coordination service. We bring the right professionals together and organise the support around your family, so you spend less time searching and more time recovering.

The care itself is delivered by licensed professionals — psychologists, psychiatrists, registered night nurses, employment lawyers, and postpartum doulas — who are responsible for their own clinical and legal advice. We are a student-founded team, not clinicians: we don't diagnose, treat, or give medical or legal advice.

Our mission

To simplify access to postpartum support for expecting and new mothers in Greater Hamilton by coordinating mental health, overnight nursing, doula and employment-law services around each family's needs, so parents can focus on recovery and their newborn.

Our vision

A future where no mother faces the fourth trimester without support, and every family can access compassionate, coordinated care that respects their wellbeing, dignity and rights at work.

Our values

Coordination, not searching

New parents shouldn't have to research, vet, and schedule five different professionals while recovering from birth. We do that part.

Licensed, accountable care

Every professional in our network is licensed or certified in their field, and responsible for their own clinical and legal advice.

Rights included

A mother's fourth trimester also involves her job. Our employment lawyers help her understand and protect her rights at work.

The whole family, not just the baby

Recovery, sleep, mental health, and workplace questions all shape a family's fourth trimester. Our support reflects that.

Our community

Founded in Toronto, we focus on supporting families in Greater Hamilton, working with professional partners across Toronto, the GTA and Hamilton. As a developing service, we are committed to listening to families and building a thoughtful, accountable approach to postpartum support.
